Hark! the Herald Angels Sing
"Hark! the Herald Angels Sing" is an English Christmas carol that first appeared in 1739, in the collection Hymns and Sacred Poems. The carol, based on Luke 2:14, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men," tells of an angelic choir singing praises to God. Charles Wesley wrote the first version of the hymn, albeit with a different title, 'Hymn for Christmas Day.' The title was subsequently changed to its present-day text by George Whitefield. In 1855, William Cummings, an organist searching for new Christmas songs, found Wesley's hymn and adapted it to the music of Felix Mendelssohn. This hymn has become one of the most recognized Christmas carols in the world.

Verse one
"Hark!" the herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
"Christ is born in Bethlehem."
"Hark!" The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Verse two
Christ by highest heav'n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Verse three
Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
"Hark!" The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
