Diane has been teaching piano throughout the San Diego area for over 35 years, as well as virtual lessons in and out of state. She has tutored students in Music Theory, and offers composition lessons to those who express an interest. Her studio includes students of all ages and focuses on instilling a love of music, while advancing musical achievement in practice and performance skills, technic, sight reading, theory, and musicianship. Diane is an active member of the Music Teachers Association of California, and encourages her students to participate in piano festivals, recitals, Certificate of Merit, and sharing their gifts of music in the community. Several of her students have been accepted into music programs at universities throughout the country including Brigham Young University, California Polytechnic State University, San Diego State University, and San Diego Mesa College. Along with teaching piano and composition lessons, Diane uses her musical skills to serve in her community accompanying soloists and choirs, and is the organist for her church. She has created this music and art website where she offers her sacred and secular music compositions, performance videos, listening links, outstanding art, as well as uplifting and inspiring messages of hope. Diane is a published composer whose music is available for purchase at Sheet Music Plus, and Sheet Music Direct.
Diane began taking piano lessons as a child from her grandmother, and then studied with Edith Burdine through her teens. She participated in the Certificate of Merit program, performing in various recitals and contests, and was accepted into the Music Degree Program at San Diego State University. During this time Diane discovered an additional interest—composing and teaching music. This inspired her to continue her music education while raising a family and then went on to complete her Bachelor of Music Degree at Point Loma Nazarene University.
While juggling children's schedules and attending college Diane began collaborating with lyricist Toni Thomas. Their combined credits include several musical plays, namely: Jewels in Her Crown, Seasons of a Woman's Life, The Queen of Phoenix, A Time for Gathering, as well as the Easter Cantata, Christ: Life and Light of the World. Their songs have been recorded by such noteworthy talent as Michael Ballam "The Kidron," Anna Carson "Open Window," and others. Diane and Toni have been awarded for their many songs in the LDS Church Music Competitions, some of which include: "Women of Faith," "Abide the Day," "The Yoke," "Here am I; Send Me," "Come Away, Exultant Angels," "A Vessel of Light," "May Thy Daystar Rise in Me," and "A New Star Over Bethlehem."
Diane's solo credits include the 2012 American College of Musicians International Piano Composition Award for her Art Song, "Anger," which is part of her larger Song Cycle, Lamentations--the Five Stages of Grief. Being commissioned by the San Diego Children's Hospital to create a theme song for their Telethon Video Soundtrack, Diane composed, "Give Back the Love." She has also received numerous LDS Music Contest awards for her Piano and Instrumental Works to include: "Look to God and Live!," "Abide With Me," "Beautiful Savior/All Creatures of Our God and King," "Be Still and Know that I am God," "Silent Night," "Because of Faith," and "He Knows His Lambs."
Diane continues to teach piano and composition lessons throughout the San Diego area, as well as virtually, and enjoys adding new compositions to her website. She especially enjoys hearing musicians perform her music, whether it be in live concert or through recordings. Diane has six children, 14 grandchildren, and lives in the beautiful rural town of Ramona, California.
