She That Loveth Much

"She That Loveth Much" testifies to the healing power of Christ as it recounts the story of the woman who anointed Christ's feet and washed them with her tears (Toni Thomas). This was one song among a collection that I composed for Toni's play, Jewels in Her Crown.

Lyrics

Text: Toni Thomas   Music: Diane Tuiofu

Verse one
She had not meant for them to see

The love that wept at Jesus’ feet

But with her hair quickly unbound

She dried the tears that fell around

And kissed his feet in the house of the Pharisee.

Verse two
But Simon knew what she had been

Had seen her dance upon the wind.

With too much wine and laughter sown,

A prophet would, he thought, have known

And turned away

Like the heart of a Pharisee.

CHORUS

But Jesus knew her and Jesus loved her;

He knew the shame her laughter would hide.

A gentle soul, when sin had found her

What loving hand would be her guide?

For Jesus knew her and Jesus loved her,

And love forgave where man would not,

And of her shame came sweet forgetting

‘Til only love, only love remained.

Bridge
Have not I wept in secret pain?

A hurt that none could know or name

Save he that suffers all with me:

Christ in the grove at Gethsemane.

Repeat Chorus

Verse four
I had not meant for you to see

The love that wells inside of me

But with my hair quickly unbound

I will dry the tears of all around

Until I have found,

I have found my Master’s feet.
